Lemon Sorbet at the Tides Wharf
The Tides Wharf Restaurant is on the waterfront in Bodega Bay, California, a couple hours north of San Francisco. The setting is superb, with seals and pelicans appearing reliably. Seafood is featured, of course, and is very good. What especially strikes my fancy in the food department, however, is the lemon sorbet, served up frozen solid in a hollowed out lemon.

This is not a complex dessert. What sets it off is the fresh lemon flavor not overwhelmed with sweetness. It’s a reminder that good food is often a simple good ingredient that the chef manages to let speak for itself. It is a dish worthy of imitating and perfecting at home.
The sorbet would be a perfect complement to a fish-and-chips fried food extravaganza. I regret having caved to foolish health concerns. Next time.
