A few years ago, my company had a couple of guys from the East Coast visiting for business meetings. The less talkative of the two wrote food articles for the newspaper in his city, so I decided that dinner at an upscale restaurant would be in order. Besides, their organization required that I not pay for their meals, and that made upscale a more approachable proposition.
My choice was Guaymas, on the waterfront in Tiburon. The evening view showed the lights of San Francisco across the Bay as we feasted on ceviche, grilled pork, and mole chicken. The quiet guy did not, as usual, say too much during the evening as I yapped away as usual with the other guests. At the conclusion we stood outside the restaurant for a moment enjoying the view before the drive back. I asked our quiet food-critic guest what he thought. He said, “You can just leave me here.” That’s about right.
My wife and I stopped at Guaymas for lunch a few Sundays ago. The daytime view is not bad either.

I had a grilled seafood combination. The restaurant is named for a seaside village in Mexico, and their menu is true to their name.

My wife had the roast pork, and I am tempted to proclaim it the best item on the menu. Mexico has a tradition of excellent preparation of pork, so it is a good bet it most Mexican restaurants. Out of a strong sense of food duty I have sampled most of the menu over time, and it is hard to go wrong. If you haven’t tried mole chicken, the dish cooked with a sauce of bitter chocolate and roasted chiles, Guaymas is the place to try it.
We ate lunch of the deck and watched the harbor activities. There is a ferry that goes to the park on Angel Island, a ferry that commutes to downtown San Francisco, and Bay sightseeing cruises. The San Francisco ferry runs commuter hours, so if you are in the city and are thinking of going to Tiburon for dinner, there is no practical way to get back by public transportation, so plan carefully. They have infrared heaters on the deck, so you can eat outdoors all year round.

There is, of course, a Guaymas web site. Our restaurant review seach engine turns up hundreds of reviews. Why would a reviewer pass it up? I wouldn’t.
Did you leave him there?
